The Human-centered eXtended Intelligence Research Lab at UC San Diego focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of interactive technology. Our research work spans from Ubiquitous Computing, to Artificial Intelligence (AI), eXtended Reality (XR), and Immersive Visualization.
Our team, led by Dr. Nadir Weibel, investigates, designs, and develops new tools, techniques, and infrastructure to leverage the power of multimodal pervasive sensing and immersive visualization. We strive to first capture, quantify and understand human behavior, and then support better interaction with digital information. Our approach allows us to design and develop human-centered technology that extends human powers and intelligence beyond their current capacity.
The HXI Research Lab is part of the Computer Science & Engineering Deopartment at UCSD, and partners with the DesignLab, the Contextual Robotics Institute, the Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems (CWPHS), and the Research Center on Optimal Digital Ethics (ReCODE).
Our main application domains are health and healthcare, along with education. Our projects are in collaboration with UCSD Health, the VA San Diego Healthcare System, Kaiser Permanente, and the Navy Medical Center San Diego, among others.
