Hello! My name is Danilo Gasques. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego (HXI Lab / Design Lab), advised by Nadir Weibel. My dissertation, Designing for misalignment in Augmented Reality displays, showed how contextual aids keep Augmented Reality guidance useful even when virtual content doesn’t line up perfectly with the physical world. You can read a short takeaway here. At HXI I built systems for surgical guidance and remote mentoring, such as ARTEMIS, with support from an Intuitive Surgical Ph.D. Research Fellowship.

From September 2022 to September 2025, I was a Research Engineer at Medivis, where I led Body Navigation (ultrasound–MRI fusion) from idea to FDA submission.

I then raised funding from South Park Commons to start AppliedMind, an AI-native product innovation startup, where we built Ruby. We shut the company down in May 2026 (field notes from the wind-down).
