Tommy Sharkey was a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego in the Human-Centered eXtended Intelligence lab and a member of the UCSD Design Lab and Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination. He has since joined the Cognitive Human Enterprise at Ernst and Young. Tommy has a diverse background beyond his degrees with explorations in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Biology, Sculpture, Physics, and Philosophy; believing that diversity of thought is critical for the creation of thoughtful work that considers social, technological, and environmental aspects of novel problems and solutions.
His work focuses on creating tools for eliciting ‘Alternative Intelligences’ (e.g. Spatial Intelligence, Interpersonal Intelligence, etc.) - tools that allow people to think through problems in a non-rational way, providing insights missed by rationalism. This takes the form of AR/VR tools and experiences for design, healthcare, and coding.
